I remember that it was 7~8 years ago, but it’s around June in this year that I feel ‘I got it’ for the first time.
- What gear do you use?
- How to make your song
Making process is just the collage by sampling, about 15-20 songs’ elements for 1 track. I’m always conscious to mix songs that are not closely related each other. The drum track is often sampled in pieces. Recently, a field recording by iPhone is a little bit taken in.
- What is the advantage and disadvantage of the sampling music?
The biggest advantage is to be able to make without music theory like me if only you have faithful ears. If I can write a melody by myself it’s difficult to record it by sampling, so this ability is going to be the disadvantage but fortunately I don’t have such a thing. Sorry for faultfinding, I can not ‘write the music”. It’s only just ‘a means to product’.
- How to title your song
Producing words that are never straightforward but drop a hint the imagination occurred while recording, and adding or subtracting, and it goes to settle down. I used to take it from an old video game, but now I realize that I like thinking about it for a long time.
- You released the LP ‘フレイジャーズ・フォリー短篇集' from PIR▲.MD in Mexico. How did it release?
When I dug casually a new music, just happened to know it on the blog in Mexico. Though it seemed to be just established at the time, somehow interesting me. I followed their tumblr at first, and they followed me as soon as I followed their SoundCloud, and they called me… It was so smoothly. I think that their works, artworks and a cooperation between producers are really good.
A sound of an air conditioner, a rhythm of a pen fell down, a conversation of other people, a very random ambient sound. An uninteresting music, a monotonous life.
- Describe your music by 3 words.
偶然: an accident 土足: one’s shoes on 無縁仏: a deceased person without any surviving relatives to pray for his soul
- Your song you like the best
I haven’t published it yet.
- Which do you prefer, dogs or cats or Ifemalize(イフェマライズ)?
Of course Ife… I prefer cats.
- Producers you have a sympathy with
I like a lot of producers but don’t have a sympathy with them because I just cannot compose.
- What are you influenced by?
A kind of an inserted flyer in a newspaper and a flyer posted in a mailbox, especially disorderly things like an electric appliance shop.
- Web sites you often go
- You manage the blog ‘踊る幽霊が1800匹’, which has so many music archives. What does Bandcamp mean for canooooopy? If Bandcamp doesn’t exist, would you make the music same as you’re doing?
(To me, Bandcamp is) The place that is full of the omen and expectation that something next step will be born, and feeling of speedy. I was relieved that there is a man uploads such a shit, which surely led me to do what I’m doing. So it’s doubtful that (if Bandcamp doesn’t exist) I would publish my songs even if I make music. Of course bandcamp is also one of the small worlds.
- The music which cannot be considered separately from Internet-culture comes out (and goes out) nowadays, like Chillwave or Witch House or recently Vaporwave. Do you feel like incongruous if your music would be categorized as the generation of Post-Internet?
I think that my performance itself is like a vaporwave but I feel a little bit incongruous with a word ‘generation’ when my age is considered. Because I’m a higher generation that noticed the generation of Post-Internet, and was galvanized by them. …please give me an exact catch phrase.
Demdike Stare // Mnemosyne Infinite Potentials // dis is wuts gona ‘appen… LUCKY DRAGONS // music for no reason Sonnymoon // Magician T.R. MAHALINGAM // Mahudi
These are not connecting the trend, just my favorites.
- Your future
I’m getting some requests of remixes, rap tracks. New song will be released from Urban Waves' compilation and new remix will be released in Jon Zeigh's forthcoming EP. I face those releases and my new works which may be EP. I expect it goes to be more selfish and wildly.
